Five songs to get you going in 2020

Five songs to get you going in 2020

How is it going for you so far?

Is 2020 proving to be one of your best years?

Well, it’s still early days, so here are five songs and music videos that will hopefully inspire you to keep going, no matter what, and produce work that is could be your best, ever.

The Chemical Brothers, Gotta Keep On

The nights are still dark, there is loads of work to do, your new year resolutions are already broken.

Don’t give up!

Just keep repeating the words from this song: “Gotta keep on, gotta keep on, gotta keep on, gotta keep on”.

OK Go, Here It Goes Again

This is the perfect music video and song for January.

For a start, it has treadmills in it, a symbol of all that exercise you planned to do in the new year. It also has lyrics that sum up the relentlessness of life: “Just when you get on a roll. Here it goes, here it goes, here it goes again, Oh, here it goes again.”

It is also one of the best videos of all time, what’s not to like about synchronised treadmill dancing?

REM, Everybody Hurts

Let’s face it, January is a tough month, and you have to be strong to get through it.

But as this REM song reminds us, you are not alone: “If you think you've had too much, of this life, well hang on.”

The video shows one of the most stylish traffic jams of all time, and we all know the joys of being stuck in traffic. And being stuck generally.

This may not be an upbeat song, but it is comforting, and we all need a bit of support sometimes. If you are looking for something a bit more upbeat to get your juices flowing, then read on. The next song should put a smile on your face.

Pharrell Williams, Happy

The title of the song says it all, and if you are not singing this song after watching this, then what’s wrong with you?

So all together now: “(Because I'm happy), Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof…”

Sam Smith, Dancing With a Stranger

I wanted to include a Sam Smith song, so maybe I am shoehorning this in. But my excuse is that it is about moving on, which is what a new year, and change, is all about.

These lyrics make it clear: “Look what you made me do, I'm with somebody new, Ooh, baby, baby, I'm dancing with a stranger.”

I also like the idea of not taking full responsibility for your own actions.

So remember, if the new year is not all you hoped it would be, and things are not going your way, blame it on someone else!
