McDonald’s makes a curveball entrance into (checks notes) keepsake wedding sauces
McDonald’s is offering engaged couples personalised McDonald's sauce pots for their wedding day. Would you dip in, or sauce your condiments elsewhere?
Created by Red Consultancy, 'Wedding Flavours' is a playful PR stunt that taps into the growing trend for couples to abandon formal wedding traditions in favour of injecting a bit of personality into the proceedings.
The customised sauce pots transform a disposable object into a memento, as well as a very shareable wedding asset.
McDonald's growing cultural relevance
Over the past decade, McDonald's marketing has increasingly shifted away from product features and towards cultural behaviours. Campaigns such as 'Raise Your Arches' acknowledged organic gestures synonymous with the brand, while 'The Meal' featured menu hacks and fandom activations.
'Wedding Flavours' also celebrates the role McDonald's already plays in people's lives, and blurs the line between merchandise, advertising and fan culture.
Jack Hutchinson, executive creative and strategy director at Red Consultancy, said: "Forget wedding favours, this year it's all about Wedding Flavours”, describing the sauce pots as unique limited-edition keepsakes that are guaranteed not to be left behind.
