Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible stunt is all about preserving cinema

Cruise, never one to shy away from a challenge, undertook the stunt to light up London’s skyline ahead of the film’s release. The event paid tribute to the franchise’s long-standing connection to the capital, which has featured prominently across several films.
Iconic locations including Tate Modern, City Hall, County Hall and Somerset House acted as a canvas for the cinematic spectacle. The sequence featured numerous nods to film series, including the iconic theme music, the burning fuse, and hero Ethan Hunt himself sprinting through London’s streets.
Our take
It’s good to see an inspiring bit of experiential to mark a major film, especially given that blockbuster releases can have the shine taken off them somewhat by the ease of watching films at home via streaming.
The projection piece’s appearance from Tom Cruise was specifically billed as a reminder that these epic stunts are meant to be seen on the big screen. By bringing the spectacle to the London masses in such an ambitious way, the point comes over well.
