Vogue defies the movie promotion formula with Devil Wears Prada 2 campaign

Vogue’s May 2026 cover pairs Anna Wintour with Meryl Streep ahead of The Devil Wears Prada 2.

The results are playful and on brand for all concerned.

Photographed by Annie Leibovitz and styled by Grace Coddington, the pair appear together ahead of the theatrical release of The Devil Wears Prada 2 in May.

The shoot is paired with a conversation moderated by Greta Gerwig on power, fashion and playing the part, blurring fiction and reality in the most meta way possible.

Devil’s in the details

Almost 20 years after the original film, the world has had a bit of time to reflect on the cultural impact of the movie, and has decided a sequel is well worth embracing.

Streep’s Miranda Priestley was widely believed to be inspired by Wintour, so the line between character and icon has never been thinner.

The campaign is all the more poignant given that there’s a bit of humble pie chomping and self-deprecation in Wintour’s inclusion. The Vogue director once stated that she assumed the original film would go “straight to DVD”. (For younger readers, a DVD is like serving a slice of Netflix on a plate).
