Dementia 'sadvertising' is swapped for radical optimism in new Alzheimer's Research UK campaign

Shifting the narrative

Creative and media agency Beyond has unveiled a groundbreaking integrated brand campaign for Alzheimer’s Research UK, the UK’s largest charity dedicated to dementia research, that radically shifts the narrative around Alzheimer’s from helplessness to urgent, tangible optimism.

The campaign builds on the momentum of the 'For a Cure' brand North Star, developed by Beyond, which originally launched in September 2023. Since then, the charity has seen a 32% increase in income, while climbing from 14th to 8th place among UK charities for ‘belief in cause’ (YouGov).

Dementia is the UK’s largest killer, and it impacts one in two of us, either by developing dementia ourselves, caring for someone with it, or both. However, thanks to extraordinary scientific endeavours, a cure is now in sight and no longer a distant dream.

The new campaign calls out, “Somewhere, someone alive today could be the first one cured of Alzheimer’s". This is a purposefully hopeful communication designed to transform passive sympathy into active support to fund a cure that will fundamentally change our futures.

Moving away from the 'sadvertising' convention of the charity sector, Beyond has developed a new approach to strategy, creative and media planning, mobilising the charity’s hard-earned donations to realise the biggest impact possible and to replace public helplessness with urgent optimism in line with the charity’s mission.

At the centre of the campaign is a cinematic hero film created to own the visual concept of crowds, representing the immense scale and universal human relevance of Alzheimer’s.

In a single continuous, seamless camera movement through a bustling British park, director Saman Aminzadeh (LoveSong), alongside Oscar-nominated director of photography Robbie Ryan (Poor Things, The Favourite), captured people of all ages to highlight how dementia touches every generation.

Saman Aminzadeh's approach instils a poignant sense of impatience, prompting viewers to wonder: which of these ages will be the first to be saved if we accelerate research today? The film is further elevated by a voiceover from BAFTA-winner Aimee Lou Wood and soundtracked by iconic rock band The Cure; the perfect choice for the mission of Alzheimer’s Research UK.

The campaign launched on 8th September 2026, marking the commencement of a coordinated multi-channel media push ahead of World Alzheimer’s Day on 21st September 2026.

"This campaign shows what’s possible when creativity and media unite around a truly powerful and strategic concept," noted Jonny Ray, co-founder and partner at Beyond. "This has been an incredible team effort with our clients and brilliant production and media partners. Working as one allowed us to create a powerful story and system that will resonate deeply and maximise the impact for Alzheimer’s Research UK.”

"Alzheimer’s Research UK is on a mission to accelerate progress towards a cure, and this new campaign perfectly captures the urgency and hope of this moment," said Director of Strategic Marketing, Carolyne Coupel, who adds, "Shifting our focus away from helplessness toward radical optimism allows us to rally the public and speed up funding for a cure. Partnering with Beyond across creative and media as one team gave us the exact momentum and scale we need to reach our ambitious fundraising goals."
